Avebury in Wiltshire, is a fascinating place with its mysterious stone circle and other places of interest. The stones themselves are stunning and awe-inspiring and the strange thing is that the little hamlet of Avebury is a working village and is located partly right in the centre of the big stone circle. There is a little museum run by the National Trust and the whole thing is much more low-key and sympathetic than the circle at Stonehenge, which isn't far away either.
Just down the road from Avebury is the equally baffling Silbury Hill, a conical man-made prehistoric structure that dominates the landscape and invites you to conjecture what on earth its purpose may have been.
This whole area of Wiltshire is dotted with amazing ancient objects and places. I find the West of England a magical place with some very interesting 'vibes' if you will.
